Local TV News Ads from Scripps and Hearst Stations in Tucson, Denver and Milwaukee

By Paul Greeley

Today’s News Blues is the only place that shares local TV news promos of every kind from around the country that readers can see, admire, emulate, criticize, dissect and steal.

I am connected to 18,090 people on LinkedIn, many of whom are in the broadcast industry.

So, I get to see what these people post on LinkedIn and it has become THE place for television news and marketing folks to share their work.

They value exposure because they’re proud of what they’ve created.

Local TV marketing and creative services folks love to see the creative promos done by other stations around the country.

We look for ideas, premises, copy points, production tips, etc. that we can borrow and customize for our station.

KGUN, Tucson

Rob Olsen

First up are two commercials from KGUN, Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Tucson, that promote specific coverage areas for their beat reporters.

Rob Olsen, a creative services producer at KGUN, Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Tucson, says the station has “an amazing promo campaign in the works right now. This is only the beginning. Excited to finish what we’ve started.”

“On Tucson’s East Side, Athena Kehoe has been a member of the community for years,” Olsen writes.

“She understands the questions her neighborhood has, and has done an incredible job bringing answers to the East Side. Watch Athena weekdays on Good Morning Tucson, and weeknights on KGUN 9 News.”

“On Tucson’s westside, Vanessa Gongora has embraced her role as a community member,” Olsen writes. “Over the past few years, she has collaborated with her neighbors to address their questions and concerns.”

KMGH, Denver

Travis Lupher

Travis Lupher, creative services director at KMGH, Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Denver, posted this spot promoting reporters dedicated to specific neighborhoods and communities.

This one took a lot of people coming together to make it happen.  First, a huge shoutout to Sebastián Tonazzi for thinking outside the box, digging into new tools, and finding the right approach to bring this promo to life.

Big thanks as well to James Dougherty, Ryan Ham and Erin Kirby for driving all over Colorado, taking photos, setting up the shoots, and filming all of the talent. And a special thanks to Russell Haythorn and Jodie Filenius for helping us carve out time in everyone’s schedules to make it all happen.

The end result is a really fun spot that highlights what makes our newsroom special. Our reporters are out in the communities they cover every day, meeting people, telling local stories, and helping bring news closer to home. Couldn’t be more proud of everyone who helped make this one happen.

WISN, Milwaukee

Dan Coad

Dan Coad, senior creative services producer at WISN, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, posted this testimonial ad for the station’s news image.

I’m a big fan of testimonials when it comes to local TV news because I like hearing from the end user in their own words why they like watching my news product.

What I like about this spot is that Coad supered the names and hometowns of the people praising WISN.
