TV Anchor Retires, For Now, to Focus on His Health

Monty Torres, an anchor and reporter for more than 20 years at KMPH, Sinclair’s Fox affiliate in Fresno, branded as Fox 26, is stepping away from his regular role at the anchor desk for now.

He took medical leave following a lung cancer diagnosis in October, according to the Fresno Bee.

“I would like to be able to come back. To come back and tell everybody I’m still here and that God is good,” the evening news anchor told The Bee at the time.

Torres has kept viewers updated throughout his treatment journey, thanking the community for its continued prayers and support.

Torres tells viewers he plans to remain connected and encourages them to stay in touch via email at montyknight@gmail.com.

The outpouring of support from viewers, friends, and colleagues has continued throughout his cancer journey, with many praising his resilience, optimism, and commitment to keeping the community informed.

Everyone at FOX26 joins the Central Valley in wishing Monty strength and continued healing and looks forward to seeing him again soon.
