WFLD’s Story About an 81-Year Old Chicagoan Denied Insurance Coverage Gets Tyler Perry Involved

By Paul Greeley
WFLD, the Fox-owned station in Chicago, branded as Fox 32 Chicago, aired a story on August 31st about Brenda Daurham, an 81-year old woman, whose insurance claim for a plumbing failure that damaged her home was denied.
For more than 40 years, Daurham says she paid for homeowners’ insurance, believing it would be there when she needed it.
Daurham says she remains displaced, and given her insurance claim has been denied, a restoration company has placed a lien on her property for nearly $18,000.
“I have nothing, nothing at all, so I just want somebody to help me,” Daurham said through tears. “I had to go to the emergency room Monday because I was breaking down. I was so nervous I didn’t know what to do.”
Tyler Perry, the American actor, writer, director, producer, and playwright with a career spanning over 30 years, was alerted about the story and pledged to pay off her lien and help restore her home.
Perry called out the insurance company by name on social media and took them to task.
