By Paul Greeley

Ashleigh Walters, an award-winning veteran journalist, artist, and longtime South Florida storyteller joins the newsroom at WPEC CBS12, Sinclair’s CBS affiliate in West Palm Beach, a market where she worked for more than a decade in local broadcasting.

Walters will anchor CBS12 News weekdays at 5, 5:30, and 6 p.m. starting September 21.

A familiar name to South Florida viewers, Walters has reported across Palm Beach County, the Treasure Coast and beyond, as well as major national stories including the Aurora theater shooting, flooding in Colorado and Hurricane Isaac in New Orleans.

Walters reporting earned her prestigious Edward R. Murrow and Emmy awards, among other journalism honors.

Earlier, she was an anchor and multimedia journalist at WLTX in Columbia, South Carolina, where she was named Reporter of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association.

The Associated Press and RTNDA have also recognized her work.

At KUSA in Denver, she hosted and produced a live magazine-style program and interviewed celebrities, newsmakers and other notable figures.

Walters is also an accomplished painter whose work has appeared in publications, juried shows, galleries, news stories and commercials. She earned degrees in broadcast news journalism and fine arts painting, with a minor in business administration, from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Living in South Florida, Walters enjoys painting, photography, travel and exploring the people and places that make the region unique. She describes herself as a “consistently inconsistent golfer” who is married to a golf course architect. She is excited to continue serving a community she knows and loves while helping viewers understand the stories affecting their families and neighborhoods.
