The local TV weather forecast has long been the # 1 reason viewers watch local TV news.

So naturally, local TV stations place a priority on creating promos that somehow makes their weather forecast different and superior to the other local TV stations’ forecasts.

This weather story from WBZ in Boston originally published on January 28, 2026.

Sean Barnacoat

Sean Barnacoat, director of brand and marketing at WBZ, the CBS-owned affiliate in Boston, posted how a folding table and a hand drawn sign can be the basis for a new winter weather promo campaign.

Eric Fisher

Eric Fisher, WBZ’s chief meteorologist, set up shop in Copley Square to answer people’s questions about the upcoming winter.

“For all the buzz around AI and virtual reality, sometimes you just can’t beat genuine human interaction,” Barnacoat wrote.

Matt Hietpas

With this “Winter Weather Info Booth,” Matt Hietpas, senior creative services producer at WBZ, created this series of fun promo spots highlighting Fisher’s expertise, expectations, and connection with New Englanders.

And with Boston and the entire Northeast getting its first big snowstorm in years, it looks like Fisher’s long range forecast is panning out.

Here are a couple weather promos from WNBC in New York and WMAR in Baltimore that was first published on News Blues on February 18, 2026.

Jennifer Hancox

Jennifer Hancox, the creative services director at the NBC-owned affiliate WNBC, posted this on social media.

“Excited about our new NBC New York/ Telemundo 47 weather image campaign. Lots of time, energy, and fun! Here’s the “Hero” spot that premiered Super Bowl.”

Julie Wigley

Julie Wigley, the assistant creative services director for WMAR, the Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Baltimore posted this spot on social media.

“There’s a fine line between comedy and news promotion – and we really like to walk on that fine line when we can. Especially when it will make us stand out from the generic.  This was an instance when we felt we could have a little fun with a recent hot topic… people getting their weather from their phone instead of trusting what local meteorologist were saying.  With the recent snowstorm, I’m pretty sure if you went up to any of our Mets, and told them what you saw on your phone this may have actually happened 😂”

Here are some local TV weather promos from San Francisco, New York, Ft. Myers and Myrtle Beach that was first published in March, 2026.

Gayle Ong, a meteorologist from KRON, Nexstar’s CW affiliate in San Francisco, posted this weather promo on social media saying, “The KRON 4 Weather Team has you covered. Big shoutout to our awesome promo team for putting this together!”

Jennifer Hancox

Jennifer Hancox, creative services director at WNBC, the NBC-owned station in New York, posted this spot that premiered in the Super Bowl saying she’s “excited about our new NBC New York/ Telemundo 47 weather image campaign. Lots of time, energy, and fun!”

Jason Dunning, a meteorologist at WBBH, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, branded Gulf Coast NBC, posted this weather promo.

“Really proud of the amazing work our Creative Services team at Gulf Coast WBBH-WZVN put into this weather promo. I wish I could go back and show my 10-year-old self—the kid recording “neighborhood news” on his mom’s camcorder—that one day those weather segments would find their way on TV. I’m grateful that I get to wake up every morning and do what I love, and it’s moments like these that remind me to slow down and enjoy the journey.”

Andrew Dockery

Andrew Dockery, a meteorologist at WMBF, Gray’s NBCX affiliate in Myrtle Beach, praised this weather promo by saying, “We’re officially certified most accurate for SEVEN years in a row here! So happy to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment with the WMBF First Alert Weather Team. Thanks to Hunter Boenau for another amazing promo. Culley McGuire and his marketing team continue to shine.”
