TEXAS VIEWERS GET SCHOOLED IN NEWS LITERACY

KVUE in Austin, Texas is working to help viewers identify the difference between real and fake news.

It’s a new segment that’s airing on Daybreak, the Tegna station’s morning show, morning reporter Bryce Newberry will be the face of the segment that will air on Mondays

The piece doesn’t have an official name, they are just calling it a new literacy series.

Newberry is working with The Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin to break down the questions people have.

Things they plan to address include ways to identify real vs. fake stories on social media, how to tell the difference between a news anchor and an opinion anchor and how social media metrics play into what you see on your feed.

Newberry posted the teaser below. He’s calling on viewers to submit questions as they produce these pieces in the next few weeks.
