NAACP IS CALLING FOR KTVU ANCHOR TO COME BACK

NAACP is calling for KTVU anchor Frank Somerville’s suspension to be revoked.

Somerville was suspended after a disagreement with a producer over language used in the station’s coverage of the Gaby Petito case.

The longtime veteran anchor wanted to add a line of commentary regarding the media’s dismissal of missing women of color in coverage.

The Oakland brand of the NAACP is calling for the station to bring him back and wants to hold a public discussion on the topic of “disparate coverage of the missing Black, Latina and indigenous girls and women.”

A letter was sent to KTVU general manager Mellynda Hartel.
