FORMER INDY ANCHOR OFFICIALLY ENTERS POLITICS
John Stehr took a delayed retirement from WTHR in Indianapolis, IN back in 2019.
Since then, he’s been active in civic affairs in Zionsville, IN, where he’s lived for more than 30 years.
Last summer he announced his intent to run for mayor, but filing the papers with the county clerk this week made it official.
“Over the course of my career in journalism, I learned something about local leaders,” Stehr said. “The good ones identify their goals and then build a consensus to achieve them. It makes sense. You really can’t get anywhere if you don’t know where you’re headed.”
Stehr had originally planned to retire from tv news in the summer of 2018, but his plans were delayed when he stayed on while his co-anchor recovered from an illness.
He’d been with WTHR for more than 27 years, most of them as primary anchor
He’s running as a Republican.
