A SOCIAL MEDIA TIME-OUT AND A TOO-LATE APOLOGY

One would think that after being around the tv news business for 40 years, one would know what is acceptable and unacceptable in one’s public utterances and postings.

One would think that a tv news veteran who likes to label himself a “social media influencer” (a scabrous term at best, in our humble opinion) might have the foresight to know what will and won’t fly with one’s attempts to influence social media.

In the case of Curt Autry, anchor with Gray’s WWBT in Richmond, VA, one would be wrong.

Autry, with nearly 30 years under his belt at the station and with a tv news career beginning its fifth decade posted a clearly racist message over the weekend – one we won’t help spread – as as a result, got himself a social media timeout from corporate.

He embarrassed himself and his station and his colleagues.

The apology was the least he could do.

The best he can do is stay the hell off social media even after is ban is lifted until he gains the maturity to make better decisions.
