FORMER ANCHOR ELECTED MAYOR OF WICHITA

It was just last March that Lily Wu abandoned the anchor chair at Gray’s KWCH in Wichita, KS.

At the time, she said she wanted to explore options in the world of politics.

A month after her exit, she announced a run for mayor and in August, breezed to a win in her primary.

Whipple ran on the claim she was a political outsider, but her campaign was largely fueled by contributions from Americans for Prosperity, the Koch Industries PAC that is the insideriest of insiders.

And now the onetime tv newser is mayor.

Wu defeated incumbent Brandon Whipple rather handily garnering 35,859 votes to Whipples’s 25,557.

She will be Wichita’s first Asian-American mayor when she is sworn in.

She’s pledged to keep partisan politics out of Wichita’s City Hall.
