Steve Horstmeyer who was supposed to retire back in March, has postponed his retirement until August, while his station is filling roles in the weather department at WXIX-TV. The station has lost three members of the weather team in the past five months. The latest, Ethan Emery is leaving for a job outside of TV in May.
John Kiesewetter, the longtime Cincinnati media columnist has the full story including what the station’s GM had to say about the situation. “…Ashley and Ethan made the decision to move on to positions that are not on air. Ethan’s last day with us is 5/11, he has been gracious to stay with us a bit longer to forecast the weekends. Steve’s retirement month is now August of this year, and we’ve not selected a chief just yet.”
The station did hire former WKRC Meteorologist Brad Maushart to fill in some of the shifts, he will be doing weekday weather for the station. He left WKRC in 2023 to work for The Weather Company (WSI for us old school folks).
