Erin Myers, a reporter for KTLA, Nexstar’s CW affiliate in Los Angeles, was doing a report on a rainstorm Monday morning when an unexpected visitor stole show.
As Myers discussed preparations for a possible flood, a bear climbed on top of trash cans behind her, grabbed a trash bag out of one of the cans and took off to enjoy its meal, according to KTAL.
“A bear watch and a storm watch here in Altadena, so a lot going on this morning,” she said.

Southern California is populated by black bears, which are omnivores whose diets include trash.
“It happens to be trash day. It’s also bear day because it’s trash day,” Eric Spillman added from KTLA’s studio in Hollywood.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife estimates the state’s black bear population to be between 49,000 and 71,000.
