WAVY-TV, Nexstar’s NBC affiliate serving the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, is continuing its annual 10 On Your Side Coats for Families campaign—a cherished community effort to help families across Hampton Roads stay warm during the cold months ahead.
With support from local businesses and organizations, WAVY asks viewers to make a difference by donating new or gently used coats for neighbors in need.
For more than 30 years, WAVY-TV 10 has proudly led this initiative as the only local news station in the region dedicated to collecting coats for people of all ages.
For many families, a coat represents more than just protection from the cold—it’s a symbol of care and community support.

“This campaign is about more than coats; it’s about compassion,” says Carol Ward, WVY’s GM. “Every donation represents hope and warmth for someone in need, and we’re grateful to our Hampton Roads community for continuing to make this possible.”
Donations are being accepted now through December 28, 2025, at select locations including Grand Furniture, First Advantage Federal Credit Union, Patrick Henry Mall, Hilltop Marketplace, and Red Mill Commons. Additional partners helping spread the word this year include Kellam Home Services and Norfolk State University.
WAVY is holding Live Event Fridays from 4–7 p.m. on November 14, December 5, and December 12.
This effort is powered by Albano Cleaners and Harrison’s by Apple Moving. Harrison’s collects coats from donation sites, while Albano Cleaners ensures gently used coats are cleaned and ready for new homes.
