Moms Make Great Journalists
Lauren Weppler-Geissler
This was me very pregnant more than 11 years ago. I was pregnant with my first son. I tell him he was on T.V. before he was even born. I snapped this in between live shots, when I had my feet up and I was riding in a live truck with my photog.
I remember being told, and thinking… the news media is a terrible business for families and mothers, how am I going to do this? And the answer is, YOU JUST DO.
FIVE BOYS later… and I can testify.
It’s not easy, but I swear becoming a mother made me a better journalist. It made be connect better in my writing and to the person across from me. I related better and understood where people were coming from.
And is the industry better now for families?…. That’s a longer post for another day.
But for today, if you are facing motherhood as a working journalists. Know that you are NOT alone, and you can be a great mom and still do great work.
