Who are the new next gen journalists entering into the local TV news arena?
Where are they coming from?
What skills do they have?
What are their expectations?
Who has played a role in getting them their start?
In the unsettling environment of local TV news these days, it’s encouraging that a new wave of college grads trained in journalism are passionate about our business.
I’ve already profiled a few of their stories and will continue to feature them.
Next Gen TV Journalist Joining WDBJ After College Graduation
Her First Local TV News Job After College, Meet Sarah Grosch
Ainsley Goebel posted on social media that following graduation from Florida State University, she will be joining KETV, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Omaha as a full-time meteorologist.
Growing up, every storm, every lightning strike, every chance at a snow day had me glued to this station. I feel incredibly lucky to be starting my career in a place that means this much to me.

I want to thank all of the Hearst directors and recruiters for supporting me throughout this process, and especially Sinan Sadar for always looking out for me.

Thank you to Sarah Willets Klinger, KETV’s news director, for believing in me and for fostering my growth during my internship last summer.
To the KETV weather team, chief meteorologist Bill Randby, Caitlin Harvey, Sean Everson, and Luke Vickery, thank you for your mentorship and for welcoming me into something I’ve dreamed about for so long.
Thank you to my mentors at Florida State for pushing me and helping me grow into the meteorologist I am today. And to my friends, family, and God, thank you for the constant love and support through every step of this journey. See you soon, Omaha! ⚡️
