Congratulations to Jeff Passolt, as he wraps up a 23-year run at the anchor desk of Fox-owned KMSP in Minneapolis.

“Earlier this year I realized I’d never catch Mark Rosen’s 50 years in the broadcast media business, not to mention Tom Barnard, Charley Walters, Pat Reusse, Joe Soucheray and the legendary Sid Hartman,” Passolt said in a statement.

Before KSMP, the Minnesota-born Passolt worked locally at KARE, in addition to a stint with Denver-based KMGH.

But we find ourselves a bit gobsmacked that his last day at the station is Sunday May 5.

No month-long series of retrospectives to juice up sweeps?

No endless array of local celebrities and politicians parading in front of the camera to sing his praises and wish him well?

Why there’s not even time to design a cake that is worthy of his career accomplishments.

We salute him for his stellar career, and we thank him for robbing the promotions department of a month-long supply of cheese.

Now let the nationwide search begin for his replacement.
