WXII ANCHOR STEPS ASIDE WHILE DEALING WITH MEDICAL ISSUE

WXII anchor Kimberly Van Scoy is stepping away to focus on her health.

Van Scoy has been on medical leave since last month after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2020, the station posted on its website.

She joined the Winston-Salem, North Carolina station in 1998. Van Scoy started as evening anchor, but shifted to mornings in 2003.

“After much prayer and the support of station management, I have decided to step away from the station I love. I feel fortunate to have worked at the station all these years, with not just great journalists, but truly great people,” Van Scoy wrote to colleagues last week.

WXII 12 President and General Manager Michelle Butt said:

“Kimberly is a part of our family. We love her and support her decision to prioritize her health and family. While, selfishly, we want her at WXII 12, all of us know this is what’s best for someone we hold so dear.”

The station said donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
