SHE’S RUNNING

For the past month, we’ve been following the saga of Janelle Stelson, former longtime anchor at Hearst’s WGAL in Lancaster, PA who departed as rumors swirled about a possible run for Congress.

Two weeks after her 26-year run at the station ended, she’s made it official.

Stelson is running for the Democratic nomination for the Congressional seat in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District.

“It’s been my honor to listen to and tell the stories of hundreds of people in central Pennsylvania, but I just think it’s time to move from the telling to doing,” Stelson said. “I’ve been telling these stories for decades. I’m actually now running for Congress to do something about them.”

She’s running against incumbent Republican Scott Perry, who played a key role in the election denialism that led to January 6th.

Not that she has any strong feelings about Perry.

“The thing that really switched the lightbulb on for me (about seeking office) is Scott Perry. I’m leaving a job I love. It’s a fulfilling job. But he’s bad enough that he’s worth jumping off the cliff for. He’s an actual threat to democracy, and that’s worth fighting for.”

For his part, Perry is playing the concerned legislator only looking out for his constituents’ best interests.

So far it’s worked.

One little hitch: Stelson at this writing doesn’t live in the 10th District even though that is where her former employer for 26 years is located.

But she might want to get her (new) house in order for her candidacy to have any credibility.

And she is the latest of six Democrats itching to get nominated and make a run at Perry
