WKRG, Nexstar’s CBS affiliate in Mobile, Alabama, has a new image promo for its investigative franchise.

“What makes our message effective, is the fact that our team’s professional experience and connections in our community, proves viewers can trust them,” says Whitney Mosley, WKRG’s assistant marketing director. “With the current climate of mistrust in the news media, it’s important to show our viewers that we still perform an important role in holding our community leaders accountable.”
Mosley says the production of the promo was a team effort.
“We wanted a “true crime” look, so we wanted to show the grungy of Mobile,” she says.

Mosley and Jay Chalmers, WKRG’s marketing director, searched Google Earth and found a location by the railroad tracks behind an industrial business along the waterfront.
“It was perfect,” she says. “It had everything we were looking for…besides the railroad tracks, you got a perfect view of the downtown skyline, along with overgrown weeds all around, and a rusty fence.”

Mosley, Chalmers and Tracey Tucker, a WKRG promotions producer, were set to record, when as if on cue, just as the camera started rolling, here comes a train.
“Tracey made sure to pop some extra light in the background and used a blue gel screen on one of the lights to really elevate the look,” Mosley says. “The walk and talk with our talent, Peter Albrecht, as I was shooting, Jay was walking behind me with lights. It was challenging but it paid off, as you can see, it really came together perfectly.”
Mosley says Simone Eli, the station’s sports director, is in the promo because she uncovered corruption in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) among other breaking sports investigations.
