Liz Bonis, medical reporter for Liz Bonis, Sinclair’s CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, died from colon cancer on Thursday evening, April 30, 2026, according to an article in News Blues, “WKRC’s Liz Bonis Remembered: She Reported on Cancer Solutions as Her’s Faded.”

Bonis encouraged others to participate in medical trials and new medical procedures.

True to her word, Bonis participated in six clinical trials for experimental oncology drugs during her last four years.

Through these, she courageously fought what ultimately became a fatal war with colon cancer.

These drugs lengthened her life, no doubt improving it as well.

Friends, family, and colleagues gathered in Oakley on Monday to remember longtime Local 12 medical reporter Liz Bonis, who died at the end of April, three years after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

Funeral services were held at Crossroads Church in Oakley, where those who knew her shared stories and reflected on the impact she made through her work and her life.

Bonis joined Local 12 in 2002 and became a familiar presence to viewers through her medical reporting over the years.

Local 12 thanked the many people who reached out in recent weeks and on the day of the service to offer condolences.

The station also thanked everyone who joined Friday’s blood drive during the Free Health and Retirement Expo, saying the event carried on Bonis’ legacy of helping people.
