WKMG, Graham Media’s CBS affiliate in Orlando, has released some new promos for its morning news team that focus on the fact that they grew up in the area.

Mike Ramsdell

Mike Ramsdell, a creative producer for the station, says that in producing the promo for morning anchor, Crystal Moyer, he met her parents in her hometown of Melbourne, just southeast of Orlando on the Atlantic coast.

“It was a pleasure meeting her parents and to talk about how our team at WKMG News 6 is part of the local community,” Ramsdell says. “It was a great creative challenge to come up with a promo that shows everything our morning team is doing to educate viewers. I’m glad we could build around the phrase I included in my script, “start your day differently.”

In another promo for Justin Warmoth, also an anchor on WKMG’s morning news, Ramsdell says, “It’s always exciting coming up with a new way to tell a story.”

Warmoth’s story is that his dad, Greg Warmoth, is a longtime news anchor for WFTV, the ABC affiliate in Orlando.

“I still remember going to work with him when I was a kid—those early experiences definitely sparked my interest in the field. If memory serves, he’d carry a half-asleep six-year-old version of me to the car at 3 AM when he worked the morning shift. Even on the days I didn’t go, my mom always had the news on as we got ready for school, so I was hooked from an early age.
As for how it feels now? I won’t lie, it’s pretty surreal. I hear from long-time Central Florida viewers who remember watching him when he was my age. He’s set a journalistic bar that I don’t expect to surpass, but that just motivates me to keep honing my craft. Having your role model and mentor also be your dad—that’s something I’ll never take for granted.”

Phillip Deems

“We wanted our new promotion to be simple, authentic and to focus on the fact that most of our AM team at News 6 is home grown,” says Phillip Deems, WKMG’s creative services director. “They have a deep love of our community and a unique perspective on stories that affect Central Floridians.”
