Fox News was coasting through another one of its huffing and puffing segments about big, bad Jim Acosta of CNN, when an actual thought popped up.
“We should stop having reporters at those Trump rallies. Everybody should stop having reporters penned up like veal in the back of those things for the President to use as a prop, and then some of the reporters exploit that for their own personal benefit. This is not helping anybody. Get out of the hall. Leave the cameras, get the reporters out of the hall. Quit letting him use you as a foil.”
Kudos to Chris Stirewalt, digital politics editor for the network. Make it so.
We’d like to see this gain some traction and become reality.
It’s pretty much a given that no news is actually generated at these clambakes, unless you are chronicling today’s version of Orwell’s “Two Minute Hate” sessions.
Yes, a perfect solution would be a pool serving both print and broadcast, which would pretty much deprive Mr. Trump of a favored target at his political rallies.
But then, who would the true believers flip off?
Journalists have become an important, almost indispensable prop at these funfests.
More importantly, what would cable “news” organizations do for ratings once they stop the mindless re-transmission of political rallies which were NEVER covered in this fashion prior to 2015?
As for Acosta, he needs to work a LOT harder at not making himself the story.
