As the New Year opened, we relayed a report from a tipster that all was not well at Sinclair-controlled WTAT in Charleston, SC, what with the recent loss of the GSM and a number of other employee exits, including the digital content director who walked across the street.

We say “controlled” because the station license is held by well-known Sinclair beard Cunningham Broadcasting.

But former 6:30 and 10 PM anchor Leyla Gulen wrote to assure us that her exit of those newscasts after three years was strictly her call.

“…it was my choice not to renew my anchor contract. It is my pleasure to continue to host our original news/lifestyle show, FOX24 News Now, which is starting its third year this month.”

Good to hear from you, Leyla.

And it is our pleasure to point out Sinclair’s ongoing duplicity with this Cunningham Broadcasting nonsense.

Then again, it’s why Nexstar is now closing on Tribune and not Sinclair.
