The departure of Sharon Ray as the chief meteorologist of NPG’s KMIZ in Columbia, MO. certainly came as a shock to the market.

Losing someone close to 15 years of tenure can do that.

But the joy (the thrill! the excitement!) is evident at her destination in Corpus Christi, TX as she hitches her wagon to the Cordillera (soon to be Scripps) star at the KRIS-KZTV duopoly..

And it’s a package deal!

Take a look:

I am thrilled to announce an exciting addition to the KRIS Communications team. We are adding a fantastic, experienced and market leading Meteorologist to our already strong as nails weather team. Sharon Graves (Sharon Ray on the air) joins us from KMIZ ABC 17 in Columbia, MO. She served as Chief Meteorologist there since 2003 and leads the market. Sharon is a great talent with an impressive record of market leading success. Sharon is set to work on the KZTV Action 10 News as our Chief Meteorologist. She will start April 1st though her on-air debut is yet to be determined. Cole will continue on the KZTV main shows until we finalize a transition plan. Cole is doing a great job and we are thankful for his impact on our product.

Sharon has a history with KRIS and ties to Corpus Christi. She interned at KRIS while in College and began her career here after graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1985. Sharon’s husband Kevin (who worked as a director at KZTV and KRIS) will be joining us as well working in News/Operations. They have family in Corpus Christi and have had enough of the Midwest winters. They are excited to get back to Texas and make Corpus Christi their home. We look forward to their contributions.
