FORECAST FOR RETIRED WEATHERMAN: POLITICS

Mike Thompson, the longtime WDAF meteorologist who took a buyout in December 2018 after 26 years with the station, has decided politics is his next act.

Thompson, who left the station just before Nexstar took possession of the place, announced he is running for the Kansas State Senate seat being vacated in mid-January by Mary Pilcher-Cook.

She’s held the seat for 15 years and is one of the more conservative lawmakers in the state legislature.

Astute enough to determine his constituency, Thompson kicked off his campaign by warning of an “unrelenting storm of higher taxes and spending increases” facing voters.

Yeah, that’ll do it.

Thompson is seeking an appointment fill the remainder of Pilcher-Cook’s term, then plans to run for a full term in November.
