A DEPARTURE FOR “FAMILY REASONS” IN DALLAS

Uncle Barky reports from DFW that KXAS weekend evening anchor/reporter Cory Smith will be leaving the Fort Worth-based NBC O&O when his contract expires at the end of this year.

And his replacement is already waiting in the wings.

Vice president of news Mark Ginther said Smith’s departure is due to unspecified “family reasons” that will evidently lead the Texas native to look for other opportunities outside of the state.

Waiting to replace him is Laura Harris,  a reporter with Scripps’ WFTS in Tampa, FL for the past six years.

She previously worked as an anchor in Charleston, SC.

She also has worked for CNN, TNT Sports and WNEG in Athens, GA.
