ST. LOUIS TV VET OFF THE ANCHOR DESK…FOR NOW

Ongoing pressure from the public and the local NAACP chapter has led Kevin Steincross of Tribune’s KTVI to step away from his anchor duties for the station, while he works to rebuild public trust in him.

On Jan. 17, Steincross reported that an upcoming tribute would honor “Martin Luther Coon Jr.”

Firestorm ensued.

Apologies, profuse in nature, issued.

And on Friday, Steincross apologized yet again for what he says was an inadvertent error.

Then, he and the station issued statements that, by mutual agreement, Steincross would take a break from anchoring for awhile and perhaps do some penance and bridge-building.

Nobody’s saying how long the break will last.
