Tribune’s WGHP in Greensboro, NC is getting into the late news business.

An 11 PM newscast is set to debut on the station May 1.

When it makes its bow, the station will be producing a grand total of 11 hours of news being broadcast by the station every day.

We predict even more re-racks.

But sales will rub its hands together in anticipation of the extra commercial inventory….

“As the most-watched local news station in the Triad, moving into the 11 o’clock hour is a natural extension. The FOX8 News at 11 will be a new and meaningful choice for local news that will provide viewers and users with the depth and quality that they have come to expect from WGHP,” is how Jim Himes, Fox 8 president and general manager justified it.

We’ll reserve judgement on that “new and meaningful” crack

Michael Hennessey will anchor the new newscast, alongside chief meteorologist Van Denton.
