Scripps has closed its $521 million acquisition of 15 television stations in 10 markets from Cordillera Communications.

Scripps now owns 52 stations in 36 markets. Not Nexstar size, but pretty big.

Cable/broadband provider Altice USA is shelling out $200 million to acquire news network Cheddar.

Cheddar’s twin business and news networks are available in 40 million pay-TV homes across the continent.

And, of course, Cheedar has a sizable social footprint across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat and other platforms, generating over 400 million video views a month.

Growing and improving rural broadband service was the central topic as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Mr. Trump and a gaggle of senators and members of Congress huddled at the White House this week.

The goal is to increase broadband access in the rural sections of the country and, to that end, those in attendance agree that broadband development needs to be an integral part of any infrastructure plan.
