Tegna’s WKYC in Cleveland is breaking new ground, but to what end?
The station has hired local comic Mike Polk and they are THRILLED!
“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Polk Jr. to the WKYC family,” the station’s President and General Manager Micki Byrnes said. “Mike is one of the most well-established and successful figures in the Cleveland comedy scene and we’re excited that he’ll be bringing a fresh perspective and smart sense of humor to the local news cycle on a daily basis.”
The announcement isn’t specific about when or how often Polk would appear other than to say he will “share his creative take on what’s happening in Cleveland across all of Channel 3’s news platforms.”
But sources are hinting station might have Polk anchor the 11 p.m. newscast on Fridays.
Polk himself seems a bit gobsmacked.
“I was as surprised that WKYC offered me this gig as I’m certain everyone else is, and I told them as much,” Polk said. “But for the life of me I could not manage to talk my way out of this tremendous opportunity.”
But rest assured….
“Viewers can expect to find honest moments of levity and laughter through his storytelling. His intelligence, infectious energy and passion for our community will come to life on WKYC in the weeks and months to come,” WKYC Director of Content Adam Miller said
