SPORTS DIRECTOR

WSET ABC 13 in Lynchburg, Virginia has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sports Director!

Experience:

We are looking for an experienced professional who can give our viewers an experience beyond the X’s and O’s of your typical sports segment and knows how to find the stories that will appeal to people who might not be a sports fan.

You must be a charismatic anchor, excellent story teller and a strong leader.

The Sports Director coordinates our college, NASCAR and high school sports coverage.

Our area is home to the Martinsville Speedway, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, Liberty University, several minor league baseball teams and dozens of high schools.

You will be required to produce daily content on a variety of platforms including the internet and social networks, along with performing other duties as assigned by the news managers.

The Sports Director produces his/her own segments for the 6 and 11 weekday newscasts.

Skills and Requirements:

Able to demonstrate enterprise reporting and creativity in story-telling

Be a strong writer and anchor

Have a sharp wit

The ability work well with and manage others

A self-starter

The ability to generate his or her own story ideas on a daily basis

Exemplary communication skills

The ability to work under deadlines and on a flexible schedule, that will include weekends, is required

Several years of shooting experience and technical knowledge of editing (Avid) and camera equipment

Team-player who can produce good stories under tight deadlines

Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record

Must be able to lift and carry between 25 and 50 pounds on a regular basis

Experience:

Previous anchoring and reporting experience is required

Must have at least five (5) years of on-air experience

Previous experience working in a team environment is a must

Considerable anchoring and/or live shot experience is required

Strong digital/social presence including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
