Steve Chamraz, who’s been filling in since February on the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts in Scripps’ WTMJ, is getting the job permanently.

This is one of the first major on-air personnel moves since Jeff Kiernan, WTMJ’s former news director, rejoined the Scripps-owned station in March as senior director of local content- which is still news director, but with more platforms to oversee.

Chamraz has been with WTMJ since 2011.

He formally succeeds George Mallet in the anchor chair; Mallet was let go by WTMJ in February.

Chamraz will also continue as the lead anchor on “The Now,” the station’s 6:30 p.m. news show.
