IT’S CALLED CO-DEPENDENCY

Veteran journalist and smart guy Ted Koppel gave CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter some uncomfortable moments during a panel discussion on the relationship between the press and the Trump Administration.

Koppel began by bringing up the cynical observation of the former and unlamented CBS CEO Les Moonves that while Trump may be bad for the country, he was great for CBS’ revenue.

“The ratings are up, that means you can’t do without Donald Trump,” Koppel said. “You would be lost without Donald Trump. CNN’s ratings would be in the toilet without Donald Trump.”

“You know that’s not true, you’re playing for laughs,” Stelter defended his network. “You’ve lived through enough presidencies to know. There will be more presidents.”

Koppel asked a disbelieving Stelter what CNN’s number were pre-Trump vs. now.

Stelter gave a ballpark response of 20-40% rise in viewership.

Take a look.

Of course it’s true.

Doesn’t make the coverage necessarily wrong – excessive, but not wrong.
