These days it seems like many of the folks in the tv news business live out of suitcases, such is the peripatetic nature of things as they move from station to station, as well as in and out of the business..
Someone who has spent more than 5 years in one place qualifies as a “veteran,” under these circumstances.
So to run across someone like Margaret Orr, who is celebrating 40 years at Hearst’s WDSU in New Orleans is something to note and to celebrate.
Orr joined WDSU in 1979 as a general assignment reporter.
In 2009, she began forecasting weather for the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. news after many years on the morning news.
And she did it all in her hometown.
Indeed a rarity.
