A little more than three years ago, reporter Marie Coronel and her photographer Mike Gold were out preparing a live report on storm damage for Scripps’ KGTV in San Diego, when heavy branches snapped and came crashing down on them

Gold recovered from his injuries and was back on the job in a few months.

It was a longer, more torturous journey for Coronel.

She made her emotional return to work this week on the station’s morning show.

Coronel credits her recovery and perseverance to the enormous support from family, friends, faith, co-workers, and, of course with a nod to the meters, the station’s viewers.
