It’s been nearly 50 years since Carol Silva began her tv news journey.
Just under 33 of those years was spent as an anchor at News 12 Long Island.
She signed off for the final time Friday night.
“This moment is surreal, yet totally right,” she said. “My heart knows that it’s time.”
Silva was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in September shortly after announcing her retirement in May.
Tumors had spread to her brain.
She returned to the air Dec. 2.
It capped a week of tributes and remembrances for the longtime fixture as News 12
But it was not without its surprises.
