KOVR reporter Dina Kupfer and her crew had just finished a live shot on domestic violence awareness when they were approached by a man who grabbed their camera off the tripod after a brief struggle and took off with it.
The assailant jumped into a waiting vehicle, which then took off.
Kupfer’s crewmate, photojournalist Scott Zentner, was slightly injured in the brief melee, which took place just after 5 AM last Thursday.
The incident occurred on the UC Davis campus.
Zentner said the suspected thieves took advantage of his decision to leave the station’s broadcast equipment unattended while he worked to fix a technical problem inside the crew’s live truck.
He said the injuries that he sustained were the result of being hit both by the camera’s tripod and by the suspects’ SUV.
