KOLD-TV in Tucson, AZ has a rare opening for an Assistant News Director.
The Assistant News Director will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the newsroom, but most importantly will need to find ways to generate audience on all platforms and during all dayparts.
We’re looking for someone who can work closely with the news director, digital manager and executive producers and create new ideas to take our newsroom to the next level.
This journalist recognizes most people start and end the day with a mobile device in their hand and knows how to get people to turn on the television as well as continue to grow our digital platforms.
As our audience’s habits change, so must our workflows and focus.
We are looking for someone to help lead that transformation, while still managing day to day operations. That includes overseeing the producing of newscasts for television, the creation of digital content and presenting platform specific content.
He or she must have a passion for news and innovation and be able to mentor staff by setting goals, encouraging growth and holding people accountable.
Must be able to use research to own key content drivers, breaking news and weather coverage.
Must be creative with different coverage ideas and help MMJs with impactful storytelling by avoiding “press release journalism.”
The assistant news director will also be responsible for some administrative duties such as the schedule and content planning, but should know how to “surface” from those duties and tackle primary tasks. Journalists with marketing and digital backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must also be flexible and willing to work overnights, holidays, or weekends as needed.
