After nearly 18 years on the nightside assignment desk for Fox’s WFXT in Boston, Bill Sheerin caused a bit of tv newsworld palpitations by turning up as the new managing editor for Hearst’s WCVB.

Of course the folks at WCVB are….well…excited.

“We are excited to welcome Bill to the NewsCenter 5 family as our new managing editor,” said Paige Harrison, WCVB news director. “Bill’s depth of experience and local knowledge make him the perfect fit for this position.”

Sheerin began his career at WTVT in Tampa, FL during his senior year of college as an intern and was hired by that station as an assignment editor upon graduation.

While at WFXT, Sheerin covered every major news event in the last 17 years, including the Boston Marathon bombings, the conviction and death of James “Whitey” Bulger, and the Merrimack Valley gas explosions.
